The ceremony marked the last stage in the discharge of former Maoist fighters held in the Maoist army cantonment site 5 in Dahaban, as part of a group deemed "disqualified" by United Nations findings in 2007. A total of 2,394 combatants, considered as 'minors' and 'late recruits' had been discharged since the process began on January 7, 2010, according to the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN).
